Akufo-Addo bathing in corruption; vote him out – Mahama

The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Mr John Dramani Mahama formal president of the Republic of Ghana, has said if Ghanaians re-elect President Akufo-Addo in the December 7 general elections, it will mean putting their lives in jeopardy.

Mr Mahama, who made a stop at Gambilgo in the Bolga East constituency to interact with the chiefs and elders on day one of his three-day tour, bemoaned what he deemed as the poor governance of the Akufo-Addo-led government.

According to him, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has not used the national purse to advance development over the four-year term and, therefore, should not be re-elected.

“I always challenge the NPP that with the GHS157 billion, come and point out one secondary school you have built. Come and point out one hospital you have built. Come and show us any road you have constructed.
“All the electrification progress we were doing, extending electricity to various communities, as soon as we left office, those projects have come to a standstill.
“They haven’t provided water to any community and yet they come before an election and say give us four more to do more. And I ask: four more to do what?” he questioned.
The former president continued: “Before you tell us to give you four more to do more, you must show us what you have done with the four years we gave you.

Mr Mahama also lamented the unprecedented level of corruption currently being witnessed under the presidency of Nana Akufo-Addo.
He said President Akufo-Addo is now “bathing in corruption” after appointing members of his family and friends to work in his government, citing PDS and Agyapa deals, as examples.

“All you see is corruption. At the time we were in office, they tagged us with the brush of corruption and they made so much noise about it. Today, the president is bathing in corruption. And I say that because the allegations of corruption are of people close to him and that is why I say he is bathing in it. You can be president, there might be a CEO of something who does something, you probably are not aware but when you become aware, you must take actions against it,” he said.
Mr Mahama said the only way Ghana can be rescued from its current situation is to vote out the NPP in the December 7 general elections.
He, therefore, urged the electorate to vote massively for him to secure “our future, our children’s future and our grandchildren’s future”.
“But we are on a rescue mission. This country is heading in a wrong direction and it’s our duty and responsibility to rescue our nation”.

“This election is not an ordinary election. It is an election about our future. It is an election about our children’s future. It is an election about our grandchildren’s future.
“If we do not rescue this nation from this group that is leading us, in future our children and our children’s children are going to find their lives in jeopardy and so every single vote is going to count,” he noted.
