The Central Region has confirmed its first case of the novel coronavirus.
The patient is a 57-year-old man who returned into the country on the 17th of March, 2020 from the UK
He presented symptoms of the virus and his specimen was taken to the Noguchi Memorial Research Institute for testing. On Wednesday, April 8, 2020 the results tested positive to the virus.
Dr. Akosua Owusu Sarpong, the Regional Health Director who announced this to the media on Wednesday indicated that so far thirteen (13) contacts to the patient have been traced.
Also, five hundred contacts have been traced in the region with regard to the nationwide contact tracing. One hundred and forty (140) of this number have been tested and found to be negative.
The Regional Minister, Mr. Kwamena Duncan has called for calm and advised residents not to panic but observe the preventive measures so far directed.
Ghana has now recorded 313 confirmed coronavirus cases as of Wednesday April 8, 2020.
