2019 Africa Cup of Nations: Three Africa-based players in Ghana squad for Egypt tournament

Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah has named three  local based players in his provisional squad for the upcoming  2019 Africa Cup of Nations to be staged in Egypt.

The trio- Mohammed Alhassan  (Hearts of Oak), Abdul Shafiu Fatawu and Felix Annan ( Asante Kotoko) made the 29-man provisional list which was announced on Wednesday.

Mohammed Alhassan has been impressive for Hearts in the ongoing Ghana Football Association Special Competition helping his side to qualify for the semis.

Abdul Fatawu has scored eight goals in the competition while Felix Annan has already justified his inclusion into the team with a series of consistent performances at his club.

Felix Annan has already had stints with the Black Stars during the qualifiers while Abdul Fatawu and Mohammed Alhassan have received their debut call-ups.

The team will depart Accra, on Saturday, June 1, for pre-tournament preparations in Dubai, ahead of the competition.

Of the 29 players, the final 23 will be named to represent Ghana at the tournament.

Diawusie Agyemang scores as Dynamo Dresden wallop HB Køge in friendly

Ghanaian forward Diawusie Agyemang scored one of the goals when SG Dynamo Dresden thrashed HB Køge in a pre-season friendly.
The German third-tier side beat the Danish second division outfit 5-1 at the AOK PLUS Walter Fritzsch Academy.

Agyemang opened the scoring of the fixture in the 26th minute with a brilliant finish.

Christoph Daferner, Marco Hartmann and Simon Gollnack got the other goals for the hosts on Wednesday.
It is the fifth straight victory for Dynamo Dresden in the pre-season. 

Agyemang joined them this summer after leaving FC Ingolstadt.

Board member for Accra Hearts of Oak, Frank Nelson Nwokoro has said the club will not force players to play for them

We won’t force players to play for us – Hearts board member Frank Nelson

This is coming on the back of media speculations that some players will be shown the exit door in the next transfer window.

Setting the records straight, Frank Nelson noted that there are no ongoing contract renewal talks with any of Hearts of Oak player.

“There has been no information on the contract expiration and renewal of the certain players”, the board member told Sikka FM.
He continued, “If a player decides not to play for hearts, it won’t be a big deal. No player will be forced to play for hearts. There is freedom of movement. We can only engage them in contract talks.

“We are appealing to our supporters to have trust in the board. The project is progressing very well”.

Meanwhile, Accra Hearts of Oak has in the last 24 hours completed the signing of teenage striker Isaac Mensah from lower division outfit Nkoranza Warriors.

Leeds United promoted to Premier Lea

After 16 years away from the English Premier League, Leeds United have been welcomed back.
Their place in the top flight for next season was confirmed by West Brom’s 2-1 defeat at Huddersfield Town on Friday.

Leeds will now be crowned champions if Brentford does not beat Stoke on Saturday or the Whites then take a point from Sunday’s visit to Derby County.
Argentine coach, Marcelo Bielsa has led the Yorkshire side to promotion in his second season in charge after finishing third in the Championship in 2018-19.
Even allowing for the enforced break because of the coronavirus pandemic, it has been a campaign where Leeds have never really looked like repeating mistakes of previous seasons and they have not been outside the top two since November.

They had seemed set to win promotion last season only for back-to-back defeats by Wigan and Brentford to leave them third behind Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United, before a dramatic 4-3 play-off semi-final defeat by Derby.
